Childhood Memory

One of my earliest memories is of making a tent out of bricks and a blanket when I was about 3 years old (I think!). I made it in the yard of our house. My sister Moira or brother Adrian might have been with me. . I was transporting brinks in my little blue and red wheelbarrow. One of the bricks fell out on my foot. It really hurt! I fractured my big toe and my toenail turned purple.

A very painful memory. Ow!

Tell us about one of your childhood memories please. 80 words.

Favourite piece of clothing

So, what's your favourite piece of clothing?

Mine is a hooded sweatshirt that I bought in La Paloma, Uruguay in 2005. I don't wear it very often but I really like it. It's pastel green and beige and it was very cheap because it a little mark on it so it didn't look 100% new. I tend to wear it in the Summer, especially when I'm at the beach. I guess I like it because it's casual wear that's very comfortable. I usually wear it with a pair of shorts and some alpargatas - very hippie!!

I will post a photo of the sweatshirt later.

What about you? What's your favourite piece of clothing?

One to One

Who would you like to talk to? If you could choose anybody, dead or alive, who would it be?

What themes would you like to talk about? What questions would you ask them?

For example, I'd like to talk to Britsh musician David Bowie. I admire him because he has a creative career as a musician that spans over 40 years. I'd like to talk about his vast artistic output: music, film, painting. I'd also like to talk about where he gets his musical inspiration. It would be nice to talk about particular songs and some of the stories behind them.

What about you?

Favourite Season

Hi Guys.

Well, this is a tricky one. I love summer because it's vacation time and you can do all the things you have to neglect when you're working. I love autumn because all the leaves fall off the trees and the colours this creates is amazing. I like winter in Britain when there's snow on the ground for days but you still get clear, sunny days as well (although they're really cold). However, I guess I like spring best because everything comes to life again and the days get longer.

What about you?

What's your favourite season?

Why do you like it?

What activities are good to do in this season?

Things to do during a weekend in Santiago

So, today you have to write about things you can do during a weekend in Santiago (or Pataguas!!).
I suggest paying a visit to el Bar de Don Rodrigo (Victoria Subercaseaux 355) which has a great atmosphere but gets a little smokey. Watch out for the crazy piano player!!
Another good activity is a trip to la persa Bio-Bio. Watch out for pickpockets, muggers, car-thievies and dodgy people though!
Top restaurants: Olan (Seminario) for peruvian, Yoko (Merced) for Sushi and Oriental (Bilbao) for Chinese.
El Mercado Central (Cal y Canto) is the best place for Paila Marina but Puert Calbuco (Bilbao) is good for seafood and Golfo di Napoli (Irarrazaval) has interesting pizzas.
There are often good museums to visit on Sunday. It's nice to walk through Parque Forestal to Bellas Artes, especially now during the Autum months.

An Animal or a Pet

If you could have any animal as a pet, which one would you choose?
As you can see from the picture, my choice would be a tiger. I have always been fascinated by them. They seem to be proud animals, very powerful and beautiful but also very dangerous.
What about you?
80 words about your favourite pet please.
Have a great weekend.

An artist or a piece of art

For today's post you have to write about an artist you like or piece of ark work you admire.
Whilst Salvador Dali is probably my favourite artist there are lots of paintings that I like.

I really like The Great Wave by Katsushika Hokusai.

I also like the computer art of Chiho Aoshima,

and almost anything by grafitti artist Banksy.

However, I think my favourite picture is the Little Tower by Pieter Bruegel.

What about you?
Who is your favourite artist or what is your favourite work of art (painting, sculpture, etc)

Favourite CD

Hello Bloggers!

Today I'd like you to write about your favourite cd. I have lots of favourite cds. I really like The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars by David Bowie because it was one of the first cds I owned (I used to be a big Bowie fan).

Another cd I like a lot is Blue Lines by Massive Attack. When this cd first came out it sounded like a soundtrack for modern Britain and it was described as a trip hop masterpiece.

However, I think my favourite album is Astral Weeks by Irish singer Van Morrison. The sound is a mixture of jazz and folk music which Morrison describes as "Celtic Soul". It is a a very special cd. It was record live in the studio and many of the songs were improvised. The lyrics are really special and they remind me of stories by James Joyce or Jack Kerouac. Morrison's voice is amazing.

Although it was recorded almost 40 years ago, it still sounds fresh and exciting. I first heard it at my eldest sister's house when I was about 11 or 12. At that time I prefered another Van Morrison cd (Hard nose the highway) but over the years I've played Astral Weeks more. I think my favourite track is Madame George.

So, tell me about your favourite cd.

Who's it by,
When did you hear it for the first time,
What your favourite song is,
Why you like this cd.
About 80 words please!

Check it out!

Favourite Actor

Okay! We're on a roll! Here's number 3.

I guess my favourite actors of all time has to be Robert De Niro. He's made some dodgy films recently but in the 70's and 80's he was, in my opinion, the best. My favourite De Niro films are Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy and The Deer Hunter, plus, I loved his cameo role in Brazil.

Who is your favourite actor?

Say:
Who it is,

What films he/she has starred in,

Why you like her/him

Swine Flu

Today's post is 80 words about Swine flu.
Say:
What you think about it,
Is Chile prepared to deal with an epidemic?
Fabiola and Paulina, can you remind your classmates to write please!
Thanks

Blog Till You Drop!!

Yes! Yes! Yes!

A post a day for 2 weeks.

Can U do it?

First up: A film you like. One of my favourite movies is Brazil by British director Terry Gilliam. It has a great cast (elenco) and it's a very funny science fantasy comedy. The humour is quite wicked which is most probably why I like it. I first saw this film in 1985 in a cinema called The Rio, an old arts cinema in London that's very like the Normandie. I went with my friend Martin on a Saturday afternoon. A crazy movie that makes me cry with laughter every time I see it.
(that's 80 words!!)

Tell me about your favourite film.

Say

Who's in it

What's it about

Why you like it.

About 80 words please.

This photo of me was taken in 1980 outside the Tate Gallery in London. I had hitch-hiked from Chester to London with an old school friend, Anne Parkins (the postwoman!) to see a Salvador Dali exhibition. Anne took the photo. I really like it because it reminds me of what a I was like as a teenager. The exhibition was amazing and we had a really great time.
Write about a photograph you like.

Say:

Why you like it

Who took it
What it shows

When it was taken

Include any other information you think is important.

Beautiful Chile

One of my favourite places in Chile is Maitencillo. I like to go there out of season when there aren't any tourists. It is a quiet place where you can relax and forget about the stress of Santiago. I first went there a few years ago with my wife and 2 friends. Now I go about 3 or 4 times a year. I like the walk from Maitencillo to Cachaqua along the coast. It takes about 2 and a half hours. The scenery is beautiful, even when the weather isn't so good. You can also go horse-riding on the beach or in the hills near the village.

What about you? Write about a place in Chile that you enjoyed visiting.
Say:
When you went there
Who you went with
What you did there
(150 words Minimum)

Then write at least three comments on your classmates' blogs

Favourite Song at the moment

What is your favourite English song at the moment? Personally, I can't stop listening to "Going home" by British singer Richard Hawley. His sound is very laid back and at times he sounds like Country and Western singer Johnny Cash.

This track starts off like a Velvet Underground song. It's very simple, only 3 or 4 chords and hardly any drums - just a snare somewhere in the background.

The lyrics aren't very original either. One of the verses is a re-write of the old blues song Trouble in Mind by Richard M. Jones (but I LOVE Nina Simone's version).

Nevertheless, I can't stop playing this song.

What about you? What's your favourite English song of the momment?

Say:
Who it's by,
When you heard it the first time,

What kind of music it is,

Why you like it.

AT LEAST 150 words.

Add the lyrics and a photo.

Then comment on at least 3 of your friends blogs.

Going Home - Richard Hawley

Going to the station, ticket in my hand
Gonna see my lady, think she'll understand, my lord
Walkin to the river, take my rocking chair
Let that feeling overtake me, drift away from here, my lord
I think I'm coming home to you, my lord
I think I'm coming home, my lord
Got a situation, blowin' in my head
Got a short time to stay here, long time to stay dead, my lord
Goin' to the station, it's time for me to go
Don't think that I will miss you, when that whistle blows, my lord
I think I'm coming home to you, my lord
I think I'm coming home, my lord
I think I'm coming home, my lord
Don't know if it's the force, or the situation
But something just bother's me
Don't know if I can make it
Somewhere else
Goin' to the river, take my old chair
Let that feeling overtake me, drift away from here, my lord
Drift away from here, my lord
Drift away from here, my lord
Drift away from here, my lord.
